This recipe comes from PETA and it’s so delicious. Once you have made these you will feel a physical repulsion at supermarket naans – be warned there is no going back.
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp. active dry yeast (1/2 7g package)
- 6 Tbsp. warm water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. soy milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 250 – 270g bread flour
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
Method:
- Put the yeast in the warm water and leave to froth for about 10 mins (do this in a big mixing bowl)
- Add the sugar, salt, soy milk to the frothy mixture.
- Add enough flour to bring together into a soft dough
- Knead on a lightly floured surface with your hands until it comes together and surface goes smooth (6-8 mins)
- Smear some olive oil inside the mixing bowl and put he dough ball back in. Cover and leave to prove in a warm area for 1 hour.
- ‘Knock it back’ (that is unrelated to booze) it means take the dough out of the bowl sort of punch it down to take out the air and shape into ten little equal balls. Put on a baking tray and leave to prove again for 30 mins.
- Heat a little oil in a frying pan, flatten each ball out and add to the pan – flip when you see little air bubbles in the bread and you can lift up and see they are browning on the under side.
- Fry in batches and keep warm till ready to eat. Be quick!!
Forget about not craving these every day for the rest of your life.
