Bagels

  
There is no way it’s possible to cut down the carbs when they taste as good as this 🙂 make 5 below. Who are you kidding.. Just double it. 

Ingredients:

  • 250g strong white bread flour 
  • 0.5 pack dried yeast (approx 3.5g) 
  • 1 Tbsp light brown sugar 
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • 1 egg
  • Sprinkle of poppy seeds (or other seeds if you prefer) 

Method:

  1. Add the yeast to 150ml Luke warm water and leave aside for 10 mins.
  2. Mix flour, salt and sugar in a large bowl.
  3. Add the water yeast mix and bring together with one hand. Tip out all the bits on to a clean surface and knead until smooth (approx 10 mins).
  4. Place in lightly oiled bowl, cover with clingfilm and leave to prove for 1 hour. 
  5. Split into 5 equal size balls, place on a baking tray and leave to rise again for 30 mins.
  6. Stick your floured finger in the middle of each ball the make a hole and swirl around to stretch out the dough a little. 
  7. Add a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda to a large pan of boiling water and drop in two bagels at a time. Boil for 1 min flipping over half way through. 
  8. When boiled place on baking tray and brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
  9. Bake for 20-25 mins 
  10. Delicious bagelly goodness 🙂
